As one of the founders of Maridhiano, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad, now the first vice president of Zanzibar, is laying down his vision and mission on the process of political reconciliation started in November 2009 by him and the then-president, Amani Karume. The speech was made in Pemba in the early days of January 2021.
In the CHAT today, history professor Abdul Sheriff, is talking on the historical perspectives of reconciliations in Zanzibar, emphasizing on the need for a such cosmopolitan society to embrace the spirit of tolerance, harmony and co-existence.
In this episode, the retired Zanzibari diplomat, Mr. Muhammad Yussuf, is joining me to talk about the role of Maridhiano to the image of Zanzibar in geopolitics as well as the role of international community in enhancing the reconciliation.
Zanzibar is not governed by Islamic Laws, but its society is almost 95% Muslim. Logically, we might think that their daily activities would have reflected this reality – dos and donts according to Islamic values and orientations. But where does their political reconciliation stand on this environment? Professor Issa Ziddy from the State University of Zanzibar is joining me in our today’s episode.
